We do not have to pretend that we have it all figured out…

And that is so liberating. There is so much freedom in this statement because it allows us to let God be God (be still and know) and it takes the worry off of our shoulders. We can have questions and not know all the answers and feel good about it. Because it is not up to us to know and by acknowledging this we have no other option but to look outside ourselves for guidance. No other options but to ask questions.

Questions are so central to faith. By acknowledging that we have questions we are acknowledging that we do not have all the answers.

We do not know everything.

Questions by nature, no matter how shallow, or crazy, or blasphemous, or ignorant, or arrogant, or raw, or shocking, are rooted in humility. A humility that understands. A humility that grows. A humility that allows change. A humility that understands that there is more. Questions bring freedom. The freedom to know that I do not have to know.

By nature we must feel in control for our lives to feel right. But by God’s nature, not being in control is the essence of understanding what is right. When we “give it all to God” we are submitting to more than just an overused cliché. We are submitting to His plan and His authority. God is in control. Don’t try to make it anymore complicated than that.
